So who's great idea was this anyway?

The concept for drive60.com was conceived in 2005 by Eric Davis of Elk Grove, CA during a round trip drive from Sacramento to Los Angeles along Interstate 5.

Cruise control was set at 60mph resulting in an average of 59mpg with the a/c running most of the time. Vehicle was virtually empty except for personal effects, nothing towed or affixed outside. Normal combined average mileage for this vehicle, a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid 4dr sedan, is 38mpg. Elevations ranged from sea level to 4000 feet.

...and who would be interested in driving 60?

Anybody who:

- just wants to save money on gas. It's about being a better steward of what you have.

- wants to help fix global warming.

- is familiar with the technique of hypermiling

- would love a more fuel efficient vehicle but is not currently in the market.

- would enjoy seeing the price of gasoline drop nation-wide because of lower demand.

- thinks this kind of relates to buying / eating locally and the Slow Food Movement.
